Potential Fuel Leak From Fuel Tank
Engine, March 27, 2013
RepairPal Expert Overview
Our Quick Take:
Due to an incorrectly manufactured fuel tank, an unexpected fuel leak can develop from the fuel tank.
What Should You Do?
Ford will begin notifying owners of affected vehicles on April 22, 2013. If you notice a fuel leak or smell fuel, stop driving your car and call your Ford dealer for instruction. If you don't receive recall notification and you feel you should have, please contact your Ford dealer. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so have it handy when calling. The Ford recall number is 13S03.
During the manufacturing process, the side seam of the fuel tank may not have been properly sealed and as a result, the fuel tank would be weakened and not perform as expected in the event of a crash. In addition, a fuel leak could develop at any time. Dealers will inspect the fuel tank and replace it as necessary on vehicles included in this recall.
