Ford Escape vehicles equipped with a 1.6L engine were assembled with an engine compartment fuel line which may split, resulting in a fuel leak. Fuel leaks always increase the risk of a fire.


Ford will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning July 20, 2012. At that time, they will instruct owners to stop driving their vehicle until repairs can be made. If you notice a fuel odor, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It’s helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.


Certain vehicles equipped with a 1.6L engine were assembled with an engine compartment fuel line which may split, resulting in a fuel leak. Any fuel leak always increases the risk of a fire. Owners will be notified and instructed to stop driving their vehicles and contact a Ford or Lincoln dealer to arrange for pick-up of their vehicle. Customers will be provided with a rental vehicle if needed. The dealer will replace the engine compartment fuel line to correct this concern. The Ford recall number is 12S35.

Potential Number of Units Affected: 9320

Summary: Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured from October 8, 2011, through July 11, 2012, and equipped with a 1.6L engine. These vehicles have an engine compartment fuel line which may split, resulting in a leak.

Consequence: If this leak occurs in the presence of an ignition source, there is an increased risk of a fire and/or personal injury.

Remedy: Ford will notify and instruct owners to stop driving their vehicles and contact a Ford or Lincoln dealer to arrange pick-up of their vehicle. Customers will be provided with a rental vehicle if needed. The dealer will replace the engine compartment fuel line, free charge. The recall is expected to begin on July 20, 2012. Owners may contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.
