Hooting, moaning sound similar to ship's horn or foghorn coming from engine. Sound initially only happens for brief periods during warm up, but then occurs during driveaway & while idling at red lights, stop signs, etc. Sound originates from the IAC Tube that connects the Idle Air Control Valve to the air intake tube. Severe oil leak causing the need to add up to one or more quarts of oil every couple of days. The oil leaks most when engine is off. The longer the car sets, the more the oil leaks, until it is all gone. Caused by extreme severe corrosion of oil pan. The corrosion is 'flaky' and pieces of the pan come off in layers. Oil seeps right thru the corrosion. The only solution is to have oil pan replaced, which is a major repair.

The EGR valve position (EVP) sensor can fail on this vehicle. The EVP sensor measures the EGR valve position and transmits the date to the engine control computer. If it fails, drivability and fuel economy can suffer, the Check Engine Light will commonly illuminate.

The throttle position sensor (TPS) may fail. Common symptoms of a defective TPS can be rough idle, hard starting, hesitation on acceleration, poor fuel economy, and stalling.

An oil leak may develop from the the right side head gasket.  Oil from this type of leak will commonly drip onto the starter. Our technician tell us an updated head gasket is available to correct this concern.

Certain police, fleet, and natural gas models may experience lower ball joint wear, requiring replacement of the front ball joints. Ford has issued a recall on certain vehicles for this condition. Please contact your local dealer for more information.
