How long were the brake and power steering fluid left mixed together? Conventional brake fluid usually "swells" the seals in the power steering system. Cost to repair the system will depend on what is leaking or damaged. Start (if the system will "hold" fluid) by flushing the system out with the correct oil. Put the fluid return line into a container (add a hose to the return line and place it into a container) have a friend start and run the engine, you keep topping up the fluid in the reservoir until the fluid comes out clean as the second person turns the steering from left to right. Autozone have some popular workshop manuals for free on line once you register (for free) on their website http://bit.ly/autozone_repair_info. There is also a company that independent auto repair shops buy their information from that the same information inexpensively to do it yourselfers. The information is year make and model specific repair procedures, service bulletins, component locations, wiring diagrams ect.... Hi and thank you for getting back to me! The brake fluid was left in there for a about 2-3 days. Yesterday my son noticed the steering was making a really bad squealing noise and that there was a puddle of fluid on the garage floor.
