go to autozone online and follow the repair guide. You remove the outer plastic timing belt cover and the alternator belt. Be sure to line up the timing marks on the camshaft & crankshaft pulleys then remove the crankshaft pulley (use an impact hammer)you have to loosen and move the tensioner back (be careful not to break the bracket, if so you must purchase a new water pump)remove the old timing belt and install the new one, put it all back together. Just did this exact repair on my son's 96 escort.
