FirstGear DIY Garage
I took my car to a shop to get diagnosed and they quoted me $700 for a Catalytic Converter repair. The repair was stretching me financially, which most people can relate to when unexpected car repairs arise. I was told about First Gear and with the ASE Certified Tech's help, we found that the actual root cause of the Cat. failure was the coils misfiring and with those not repaired it would have cost me more to replace the Cat. again down the road. All of the repairs were completed in about 4 hours and cost me much less than any shop in town. I believe the education and friendly service I recieved was priceless. My car runs like a champ and I highly reccomend anyone who is in need of repairs to look into First Gear Garage and the ASE Certified Tech assistance before taking it to the regular shop. I want to thank Ben and Erik at First Gear Garage again and you have a customer for life. - Derek Wolf, Cadillac STS

FirstGear DIY Garage
I have taken two of my three work trucks there so far. The setting is perfect, clean, organized, HEATED and friendly. So far I have done brakes and ball joints. Money saved is around $500 so far but the best part is I was able to do the work myself. The money I have saved in the first two repairs will go towards my next repair. I can see being a frequent customer here. Great value for people willing to try auto repair.

FirstGear DIY Garage
Went to FirstGear DIY for first time. Went in to do just a tire rotation and lube job. Very impressed with all the tools and equipment they have to offer. Even though I didn't need many tools this time, Erik and Michael were very knowledgeable and helpful and answered questions about my next repair on my truck. It is a WARM, very clean and safe environment to do any vehicle project. Beats working out in an unheated garage. Rates are reasonable, and there is pride in working on your own vehicle. I'll be back. I'd rate this shop a '10 out of '10. You can be a complete novice in car repair, and not feel intimidated, because the staff makes you feel welcome. Craig,Apple Valley

They're great! Clean, well lit, comfortable work environment. All the tools you'll need. Great service. And they're willing to give you some free advice. I was a first timer, never done anything like work on my own car, and came out with nice new brakes and felt great about it. If you're interested in doing it yourself, even a little bit, try this!

Ive worked on
1989 BMW 525i
1990 BMW 525i
1991 BMW 318i
1987 BMW 325iS M50
1989 BMW 325iC
2000 VW Cabrio
1985 BMW 325E and a 1987 BMW 325E at first gear garage, they have all the tools needed for pretty much any job which, at least on these cars makes all the difference.Erik and Travis (amongst others) are awesome guys, and they even jump in occasionally when you need a hand holding something.
the bays are well lit, very clean (although, I have a nickname there 'messmaker' they dont seem to mind)
rates are fair, 2 post lifts, impacts and all the sockets you can shake a stick at, its wonderful.
I've been in many, many times and I highly recommend you try it out if you havent already, working on your own car is not as hard as you may think ;)

Always wanted to do my own repair work but was limited by a lack of tools and repair space at home. First Gear is a great option for a do it yourselfer. The rear shocks needed replacement on our MDX. The dealer wanted over $500. I researched the repair online and First Gear offered a clean and safe environment to replace the shocks.
A complete complimate of tools, great conversation and meeting some like minded car people and saving money made for a great experience

I recently took my 2005 Acura RL in for a transmission fluid flush and tire rotation. When I arrived for my scheduled appointment, Erik had the tools necessary for the procedure ready & waiting. The facility was clean and very well organized.
Erik was extremely careful and respectful of my car and helped place it on the lift with care. The equipment was first rate and I was able to complete my task with ease. It was far safer & easier to do the work on the transmission at First Gear Garage than at home while saving significant money versus a dealership. The satisfaction of doing the entire job myself was quite gratifying.
If you are competent at wrenching, this is definitely the place for you. I'm sure I'll be back again.

Visited this remarkably clean facility to resolve an annoying exhaust leak on a Lexus RX300. I was able to schedule time in the facility easily and the guys were INCREDIBLY helpful, kind and patient with me during the repair process. They had all the tools necessary to perform the repair and were even able locate the necessary replacement parts at a local parts supplier.
Overall, I was extremely delighted with the facility. Not only did I save hundreds of dollars (compared to a dealership), but I also learned a lot which in itself is priceless.
This is a first-class outfit and definitely worth checking out. I will most certainly return again.

I save a lot by using First Gear. In April I got a quote for $450 from the Chevy dealer to do a rear brake job on my 2006 Malibu. Instead I went to First Gear. They had the parts delivered (pads & rotors) for $95 and I did the work myself in about an hour. Total cost to me was $140. So I saved over $300. The have everything you need to do just about any repair. And wow, is the place nice.
