Dale and Fairway Auto have kept our car going for years at both a fair price and with outstanding service. One always wants to find an honest auto mechanic; well, search no more.

Someone else had previously worked on the car and created some issues. Fairway did some trouble-shooting, found the problem, and got it running right.

Dale and his staff were very good. This is the second time I have been there with both are vehicles; both times the work was outstanding and was completed the same day. Thank you for being honest and fair. Its hard to find a repair shop you can trust. I DID !!!!

by - Verified Customer March 19, 2017

My car overheated and I needed a new radiator. I was very surprised and pleased that, after it was installed, any other necessary repairs should wait at least a week to verify that the engine was okay. My car is old, so the cost of a new engine would mean I was better off scrapping it, so he was trying to actually save me money, if that were the case. Well done!

I've been going to Fairway for years. Work always done correctly the first time. Dale keeps regular maintenance on schedule and is good at letting you know what repairs or maintenance are coming up, how urgent they are, and cost. Dale takes the drama out of car maintenance, and his mechanics are top-notch.

This was my first time using Fairway auto repair, and I live out of town so I called and went over what repair work I needed and if they could give me a rough price range. It felt nice to get a price range, then I drove in to check the facility to make sure they had a clean safe business / also checked bbb. I felt at ease no pressure in reviewing the cost and setting up a time to get the work done. Everything was completed a head of schedule, the vehicle runs great . Very satisfied with their operation. Thanks

Dale & his guys really know their stuff! I ended up needing a new fuel pump but they made sure that was the case before going ahead with the repair because it might have been something else causing the odor of gasoline that I was noticing. by - Verified Customer July 12, 2016

Dale who is the shop manager, and I believe also the owner, to this point has proven to be honest. Most shops I have dealt with do the following: lead you down an expensive path when trying to diagnose and fix mechanical problems. Try to find X amount of stuff to repair or replace that doesn't need to be done. So far, the previously-mentioned issues I have had in the past have not happened with Dale at Fairway. The company name is proving to be true so far.

Dale took the time to listen to the symptoms of my Jeep's problem, was knowledgeable about what needed to be done, and was willing to work with my aftermarket modification (which provides a better long term fix than the factory plastic parts.) It didn't hurt any that he was considerably cheaper than the dealer who had done the same repair twice before.

Fairway Auto Repair stands by their name but actually this small business goes above and beyond. They took the time to check this older model vehicle, prepare a list of items needing repair and prioritizing the items needing immediate attention. If you are looking for an auto repair shop you can trust; I recommend Fairway Auto Repair.

I'm sorry we did not live up to your expectations when we repaired your 2002 Infinity. I have left you messages, and even followed up with an E mail several times in the past months to be sure we are doing a good job for you. I was completely unaware you were not perfectly happy.
We do check over your car, that way you can be assured it is safe and reliable. I absolutely will recommend repairing those items found that can compromise safety and reliability. We also prioritize these recommendations for you.

My last visit to Fairway was my last visit. I was overcharged on a repair this last time. I have had other repairs previously and now that I look back on it I was probably cheated then too. I needed an alternator replaced. I was forced to take a top of the line brand and then later found out I paid twice as much for the part than what the shop paid for it. People told me I had gotten ripped off that replacing an alternator should not cost almost $600.00. When I called the owner he admitted he always charges double for all parts they receive. He did give a part of my money back to me ($125.00) but I feel I cannot trust him anymore.

Reply from Fairway Auto Repair – by dale45 January 29, 2015

Teresa,
You are absolutely correct. I am not going to be the cheapest repair shop. We are quality people, selling quality service and parts to keep your car reliable.
You use you car for work, do you really want an cheap alternator installed on your car? If I knew you need the cheapest part I would have declined doing the work.
You called me with a problem, I knew you needed the car repaired quickly so you could continue to go to work. I had the part ready to go by the time you arrived. We got you back on the road before your next appointment.
Quality parts, and a 2 year 30,000 warranty cost more than a price competitive part you find on the internet.
I am disappointed that we cannot help you maintain your car, because you will not allow us to make a fair profit.

I always feel Fairway Auto employees, are truly about car care & whats needed & not just making money. For example, I took my car in for a scheduled oil change last month. I was informed that, my oil "didn' look dirty" & that I could wait another month, if I chose to do so. I went ahead & rescheduled for the next month. Most places would just change it & not even give you the information.

They looked at my truck and gave me a quote. I sat there for 4 and a half hours while they helped 2 other people who came in without appointments. I left with my quote of $800. When I dropped my truck off to get fixed that Monday, I had to find a ride home. They called me 15 times in 3 hours while I was in school because they set off my alarm and could not figure out how to turn it off! Then they called to say they would need $3700 to fix my truck because the mechanic changed his mind about what parts he could use. No work was done to my truck and they still charged me $100 to do nothing to it!!! I will never go to them again and I tell others not to also. Incredibly disappointed and upset by them. I found another mechanic and it actually cost $480 to fix and took about an hour.

Reply from Fairway Auto Repair – by dale45 January 29, 2015

Allison,
I apologize for the wait, that normally does not happen. I understand your disappointment, I was also disappointed I did not have all the facts before quoting you a price.

We charged you $100 to find the reason your truck did not run right. You knew up front that diagnosing the problem could be $125. So, you did leave our shop with a diagnosis and with it, you were able to go to another shop and have your truck repaired.
I did not realize your truck had 4 catalytic converters, until the day you brought it in to have the repairs done. I should have known that the day we gave you an estimate. I thought it had only 2. I could not buy the other 2 converters to fix the vehicle properly, without buying the factory Ford part.

I am happy you were able to get your truck back on the road less expensively than I quoted. I just could not properly repair the vehicle for the price you were able to get it going for.

I have more questions than answers.
What engine is in your car? There are several different options (5). Does the engine actually run bad, or is it just noisy?
But, based on the information given. I would guess there is an exhaust leak or a spark plug that is allowing exhaust gasses past it.
I would find out what code is stored in your car's computer, that may help you diagnose what has happend.
BTW it was real smart of you to have the car towed rather than driving and possibly doing further damage.

Why are you draining, will it need to be cleaned out afterward?

Safety is a priority.
Removing the tank with fuel in it is dangerous, so the majority of the fuel will need to be siphoned out prior to removal.

Leaks can be difficult to diagnose. As you can tell there is a lot of "stuff" that can get in the way of making a correct diagnosis.

What can be removed to try to find the leak? I would try not to remove anything, it may disturb the leak source. The engine cover may be in the way, and if so definitely should get it out of the way.
I would clean the area real well, and try to see from above and below what could be the source.

Are you sure it is a power steering fluid leak and not engine oil?

My experiences have been to not use a rebuilt distributor in this car. I have had multiples of rebuilt distributors that have not run properly.
This is an optical distributor, and any oil inside it will block the reluctor, and the engine will misfire.
The distributor from the dealer comes with the o ring, cap and rotor.

If you need the o ring, try taking in the old o ring to a parts store and have them match it up with something they have in stock. They most likely will not have it in stock, by application. Have you tried the dealer for the o ring.

What is the condition of the vehicle.
What kind of maintenance and repairs have already been performed?
Having a vehicle inspected by a professional will go a long way in helping you decide weather the vehicle you are interested in, is a good vehicle to start with.

Occasional problems on this vehicle are failure of the Canister Vent Control Valve, and the Throttle Position (TPS) Sensor. Failure of the Canister Vent Control Valve and the TPS Sensor can cause the check engine light to illuminate. Other than these, it is a reliable vehicle.

the car runs good just the shift lever is ...
The most common problem is the aluminum shift tube in the steering coulumn breaks.
There also is 2 torx headed bolts that hold the shift lever at the base of the column that come loose or fall out.
You can check this by watching the base of the column where the cable is hooked up. Wiggle the shift lever, and watch to see if the cable moves at the same time as the lever.
If the bolts are loose, tighten them and try again.

If they do not move in unison, and the bolts are tight. The shift tube is broken in the column. It is also common for the bushings the tube rides on to be bad.

I do not see a 2.4 engine listed for that vehicle. But, I will assume it has a 2.5.
What I would do.
Check for good voltage at B+ side of the ignition coil. Fix if it is not there with key on.

Verify that the distributor is turning. If not, check the timing belt.

To check the new distributor.
Locate the distributor pick-up connector. There should be three wires going to it. Orange wire should have about 8 volts key on or cranking. The Black/Blue wire should have 0 volts, that is a ground circuit. The Grey/Black wire should have 5 volts on the harness side, with the connector unplugged. There should be a 5 volt square wave when it is plugged in and cranking.
Hope this helps.

it would be best to have the codes checked for this one.
how do you reset the check engine light so...
To reset the check engine light after repairs. you can use a scan tool to reset the light. If a scan tool is not available you can disconnect the battery to "reboot" the computer.

After the code has been cleared, the vehicle will have to be driven to reset the emissions monitors. the drive is typically a 20 mile drive from a cold start. If the monitors have mot passed, the vehicle will not pass emisions, so the problem will need to be repaired well enough for your computer to be happy with the results.

The fuel pump is in the fuel tank.
However, your complaint is starting when hot. A failing fuel pump could cause this problem, but it would not be my first guess if there were no other symptoms when it was colder.
I would definitely want to check fuel pressure/ volume before the replacement. do this when the problem is happening.

Since correcting a battery problem seemed to make things better, I would go that route to start with.
Dirty battery terminals and cables can raise havoc with computer controlled systems.

I would clean the battery and cable ends. If the cable ends have been replaced with aftermarket ends, make sure those connections are also clean.
The way I can explain this is it needs to be clean shiny lead where the connections are.

Stop leak products can work to stop the leak. However it is not recommended.
There are several types of stop leaks, seal swellers, and coagulants. Either can block up the rest of the system. Preventing it from working properly
The ac system works by allowing a high pressure liquid to pass through a small orfice where the freon changes to a low pressure gas. If this small orfice (metered internal leak) is not correct the system will not work properly. if it doesn't work properly, the system will self destruct.
Your system has moving parts, these parts need to be free to move. When the stop leak works it can, and, from my experience, eventually will, destroy the system.
I highly recommend you do not install stop leak!

If the noise is gone, the AC belt is the culprit.

Strut mounts are typically replaced when replacing the struts, they should last well over 50,000 miles.

There is something wrong, and there is no common problem with your saturn that I know of.
I had a car that broke strut mounts about every 6 months, I found going with factory original struts fixed the problem.

We have not seen any failures of this engine. Usually the rest of the truck starts falling apart before the engine. Spark plug problems can get complicated, however.
Almost all engines these days will go well past 500,000 miles with proper care.
The only ones that do not last that long are the smaller engines that run high rpm when cruising.

The check engine/ emissions light is an important light. It is telling you, the car's computer has found something it does not like. If you wait for repair, usually the repair will cost more.
It is no problem keeping a properly cared for car over 200,000 miles. We see 200k+ mile cars daily.

I'm assuming you are having a problem with the bulb connector. If so, take a look at the connector,it has a small seal on it. The seal, at times will become twisted or disformed. Adding a little dielectric, or silicone grease to this seal will help it slide in.
It may be the lock on the connector is broken off

It is very common to have this noise on Honda's.
First, I would check if there if there are any bubbles/ air in the reservoir. Is the fluid clean? Honda's do take special Honda fluid.
Check the hoses, especially the ones going into and out of the reservoir. If they are wet, at all, they are seeping and need replaced. There is a filter in the reservoir, it can be restricted. There is a suction seal on the pump that is also common to be bad.
The hoses and seal really don't leak, they just allow air into the system, which will make the pump groan.
Power steering noise, very dirty P/S fluid...
I don't have an answer, I have more questions.
How often do you have to add fluid? If adding, the fluid should now be clean.
The leak cannot be found? If there is nothing else leaking, that usually is obvious where it leaks.
How do you know if it is needed? You have to trust, check out their reviews on the internet. If your senses say no when the shop is telling you something, usually there is something wrong.

That is a lot of liquid. A muffler holding 1/2 gallon of water would, in my opinion be unusual. (they can hold a lot of water, though, depending on the design)
Another thought could be coming from the drain in the truck bed. If it had rained or the truck has water in the bed, there are drains that let the water out.

Have you checked your brake fluid, it could be a leak from the rear, but not at the quantity you are describing.

This means your check engine light did not perform the bulb test. The check engine light should turn on when the key is turned to the run position. The bulb may be burnt out, the instrument cluster may be bad, or the computer driver, or wiring for the light is bad.
You will need to check if the computer is commanding on the check engine light when in bulb test.
If it is, then I would remove the cluster and check the bulb (some bulbs are not replacable).

If it has fuel, yet will not run, you will need to find out what is missing... spark, timing, compression, or air.
That vehicle should be fuel injected, so it does not have a carb.
How do you know it is getting fuel?.
You should be able to see fuel spraying into the engine when the engine is cranking over.

The only way to truly get a accurate estimate would be to inspect the car.
When we perform out check over, we will give you an estimate on cost, and give you a priority list.
Some of the things we will discuss together is how do you use the vehicle, how long you want to keep it, and what kind of budget do you have.
With our check over and the above info. we can then lay out a service/ repair plan that will work for you.

If the vibration is in the front while applying the brakes, I would highly suspect the front brake rotors are warped. To take care of that, you will need to have the front brake rotors machined. I recommend in your situation having the rotors machined on the car.
You could, also have some looseness in the steering, that will accentuate the brake pulsation into the steering.

It is easy to check if there is power and ground on the wires to the actuator. If there is power and ground when you are not touching the switch, you have a bad switch. Be sure to check the wiring in the door for a short to ground, that would also cause the actuator to do as you describe.

Check for a vacuum leak. The #1 cause of a lean code is just that, a vacuum leak. Check the engine area visually, and also listen for a hissing sound. Some vacuum leaks can be elusive.

Since the fuse started to blow after installing a radio. I would start by inspecting the wiring to the radio. If that gets you no results, then just disconnect the wiring harness that is not original to the car for the radio. If disconnecting the radio keeps the fuse from blowing, then reinspect the wiring to the radio, or you have a bad radio.

I agree, knowing what code has been set in the HVAC module will help pinpoint what needs to be done so your AC works the way it should. The code will not be a "generic" code that can be read with a code reader, typically those will only read codes relating to emissions and powertrain performance.
The GM tech 2 scanner will be great help, it is the same scanner that the dealership used for your car.
NO ERROR CODS
Quad drivers are drivers in the pcm that control an actuator, or solenoid. Bad quad drivers doesn't nesessarly mean you have a bad pcm. You need to find out what the ones testing bad control and check the wiring, and actuator/ solenoid.

Is the check engine light on while the engine is running? If it is, there will be a computer code set. If there is computer code, it would be very valuable to let us know what code has been set.

Other than that, I would look/ listen under the hood for a vacuum leak. You will hear a hissing noise. It is very common for Ford PCV hoses to degrade, causing a vacuum leak. A vacuum leak could create a stall, as you described.

Good question, but can be hard to give you a solid answer.
What we do in the shop, after the vehicle has been repaired.
Drive the car normally. We do this first thing in the morning, after it has sat all night. We are close to the freeway, so, drive to the freeway. Once on the freeway we drive it at 55-60 mph, nice and steady for about 12 miles. We then turn around and drive on the freeway back to my shop.
Usually this will complete one drive cycle. Some vehicles will need to sit for some time with the engine off to complete the evaporative emissions test. Some will need to be driven for a second time.
All that being said, I have had some vehicles that were driven up to 1200 miles to complete a drive cycle, and pass all the emissions monitors.
If your issue is with the vehicle feeling like it is jumping when making turns.

Are your tires the same size all the way around?
Is the vehicle in 2wd, not 4 wheel drive?
I just completed an oil change, changed my...
What steps did you do to do the drive cycle?
Typically, if the monitors are not complete, it means the drive cycle has not been run. Could be there is a fault that has not turned on the check engine light, or your computer is not seeing the right conditions to run the drive cycle.
It is very common for the headlight motor gears to get stripped. Do you hear grinding/ nasty noises when the headlights are turned on?

This car also has a headlamp control module. (pops the lights up)
As csubak30 said, all vehicles are different, and it is not a miles thing.

Pretty typically... If you let the car cool completely down, overnight then drive to a place (freeway) where you can drive at a steady speed for 15 miles on way, 55-65 mph. Make sure the fuel tank is 3/4-1/4 full. Drive the car normally. Drive the car back that 15ish miles. Most likely the monitors will all run. If any have not, which does happen. There is something the computer does not like. And it is stopping it from running.
