1990 Mazda B2200 Question: FAIL smog check it says: PCV:fail,Fuel Evaporative Controls Functional:fail.....

Any idea how to solve the problem??? Already replaced pcv valve.Bought new gas tank cap. Any idea this will fix the problem ?

    Check local regulations.In Northern Va. when we fail a car for PCV , it means something in the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) SYSTEM not necessarily the valve. possibly a hose missing or damaged ,or the oil cap missing. Check with an inspector as to the specifics of what would qualify as a 'fail' in that system. As for the evap fail-you have the words 'controls functional' --that would lead me to believe you possibly have a code stored. If so what is it?
