1999 Jaguar Vanden Plas Question: Extreme Shimmy in Steering Wheel/Front End

Question

Visitor, Cherry Hill, NJ, March 02, 2010, 12:05

As I approach 40mph, the steering wheel develops an extreme shimmy and gets worse as I accelerate. It seems to have happened once or twice in past month but now is almost constant. just want to know what to expect when I have a tech look at it.

I think I would have my tires balanced and rotated and an alignment done first, because if the tires are severely out of balance or the wheel is bent or a bad tie rod etc the tire shop would notify you and once the tires are rotated and this condition remains then you would know you could eliminate the tires, wheels and alignment

The symptom you describe is 95% chance of being a drive axle/C-V joint issue.
