External Head Gasket Leak on 2005 Subaru Forester

Need information on External Head Gasket repair. This seems costly (I was quoted 1750.00 USD by my dealer service rep) and I was wondering if it might be recalled or warranty extended as I seem to find the head gasket is a problem for Subaru. I had no symptoms of a problem but was told about it recently at a routine maintenance. Please advise. Thanks, Joyce

Unfortunately it is a common problem on Subaru and there is no recall. I guess not enough people filed a complaint against Subaru. The estimate seems to be correct, this is a big job. If you happen to have extended warranty you should contact them and see if they will cover it. Zee
