Exhaust manifold usually need replacing if its cracked but I have seen people weld the cracked area but after all the work of removing and replacing I would install a new manifold

The exhaust manifold is mounted to the engine and is the first part in the exhaust. It takes the exhaust from each cylinder on a side of the engine and routes the gasses into a single exhaust pipe
These articles on exhaust manifolds also explains them in more detail.

intake or exhaust manifold? why is it an issue? if your car is a wagon, is it because of an EGR fault? that is usually just removal to clean the intake. is it a secondary air fault? that is exhaust and harder to clean. is it an exhaust leak? try 1800vwparts for good used audi/vw parts.
