Hi, I need to pass my NY safety an emissions inspection. I took my 1996 Corolla to a shop. I am told I have an exhaust leak. The leak is in my flex pipe? A piece of the exhaust pipe needs to be replaced and welded. All of my breaks are worn down and they need to be replaced. I was quoted between $480 and $540. Does this sound right? Thanks in Advance.

Sounds about right. Exhaust work is grueling sometimes. Being there is a HIGH potential of breaking bolts, and thus the added time to remove them. The estimate given to you was probably factoring in the high potential to have a few broken bolts; but who knows, if the bolts don't break your final price may be lower.
