This is the 1st time this has happened. Car battery went dead and as a result no radio, even though equalizer lights are flashing. I heard there is a security code that must be reinstalled when the vehicle looses power from a dead battery.

Your description sounds like the Radio it's self is defective. Chrysler dealerships have a radio exchange program.

After a battery replacement or vehicle jump start, the Light Emitting Diodes (LED) on the radio are flashing.
1. This does not mean there are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) stored in the audio system. Something has failed inside the radio and will need replacement.
2. This problem has been known to happen with a jump start or battery replacement.
Chrysler engineers think this happens if the battery is replaced with the key in the "ON" position or if the vehicle is jump started incorrectly.
