Question: engine wont start

 Rookie

2000 explorer wont start. I was driving down the road the check engine light started flashing and the engine died. no noises or smoke. It turns over but will not start. Any ideas??fuel pump, distributor?

    The flashing Check Engine Light means that there was a severe misfire before your car died. Your Ford has no Distributor, it is a coil pack ignition system

    start by having all the codes read and their causes traced down. Your Ford has hundreds of codes, so that is really the most logical place to start.

    Thanks, after it sat for a few hours, I tried again to start it and it did, but idled for about a minute and died again. I did go ahead and change the plugs, hoping it was fouled plugs..so aggravating. hopefully, it si something minor to repair. I am going to have it hooked to a computer tomorrow. adny advise is greatly appriecated
