engine wont start on 1999 Dodge Ram 1500

I hope someone can tell me the answer that iam looking for i replace the motor with a used motor i think its a 5.2 witch is a 318 i went too the aut parts store and they tell me that engine does not need a camshaft position sen

Your truck has a 5.2L or 5.9L engine if it is a V8. My information says a 5.2 uses a cam angle sensor located in a distributor housing. The 5.9 uses a cam sensor, I don't see a location listed but the wires at the sensor are violet / white (5volt), tan / yellow, black / light blue. Look at www.rockauto.com. see what they list as parts.
