MasterI advise to check the Fuel Pump Operation. Check the fuel pressure and fuel volume. Just because you can hear the pump running does not mean that it is working.Itf the pressure and Volume is OK, Check the Crank Position sensor. Other commonly overlooked items are the timing belt and engine wiring harness and connectors as a vehicle 18 years old can have many wiring issues.
