Question: Engine tries to shut off between 2000-2500 rpm

I bought a 96 geo prizm. It runs real rough and I hav e been told by mechanic that it is trying to shut down between 2000-2500 rpm.

The mechanics changed the distributer, wires and coil, but this did not stop the problem. They could not tell what was causing the problem.

    Check the basics first, compression test and fuel pressure.
    They should be able to tell what's wrong by looking at the live data through a diagnostic computer. It seems you need to take it to a different shop.

    They did those tests and used a diagnostic computer. There are certified mechanics. It isnt uncle Leroy and friends in his garage. lol This is why I am seeking help online. I am hoping someone might have run across this problem before and had a solution for it.

    It's pretty much a Toyota Corolla, very basic everything.
    Unfortunately without a live data no one would be able to help you, only to guess, but that will cost you $$$.
    There is always a better tech, try an other shop. Check the directory.
