engine swap on 1999 Subaru Forester

My engien finally stop working at 280000 miles body is very good so i'm looking for a replacement motor. I was told that I have to match the engine numbers so that i get the right one. Is this ture?? help

absolutely. the numbers they are talking about is the model number. they must match for everything to work properly. Roy

only if you don't want to do alot of modifactions and have it cost more... I put a vw motor in my 96 subaru,just because I had the motor.. It cost me MORE in mods than if I bought a used motor...
