1996 Isuzu Rodeo Question: Engine stops after a 30-45min drive

jadamo_8, V6, Austin, TX, July 22, 2009, 16:38

The Rodeo will drive fine. However, after a brisk 30-45 drive, it all comes to a rolling stop and the brakes and steering shut down. My brother claims that an electrical issue from either the jammed right passenger window or the smashed tailgate may be actively consuming power even after engine shut-off. When he drives it, he'd bring extra batteries for an easier restart - it would drive for another 30-45min. These are FRESH NEW BATTERIES!! Each one got sucked dry from one use, what gives? What is draining my power? BTW, a new alternator has been replaced and it has not improved the performance.

Have a shop perform a thorough check of the charging system. You may have a problem with the battery cables, but it will take a proper diagnosis to know for sure.
