1999 Oldsmobile Alero Q&A
1999 Oldsmobile Alero Question: Engine stalls at start up
I have had an intermittent problem when starting my car especially when the engine is warm. It has a slow crank and stalls at times. I have had the fuel pump, spark plugs, cap and rotor replaced. I picked the car up from the shop and stopped at the market. When I started the car it stalled again I restarted the engine and it was fine. What could the problem be now. - AMD
You may wish to zero in on the slow cranking issue and see if the stalling issue is correct once that is taken care of. For slow cranking you will need a complete inspection of the battery, cables, and starter. One of those items should be the cause of your slow cranking issue. - Oakman
i have that same problem, but mine was caused by the previous owner keeping her foot on the accelerator when she would start it. All I do is keep the key on run for five seconds before starting it. - fyrefytyr83

The fuel pump may fail causing the engine to stall and not restart. Our technicians recommend replacing the fuel filter every 30,000 miles to help prevent undue strain on the fuel pump.
