When I am stopped at a light or at a sign my engine smokes really bad but my temp gauge is in the middle. I have put oil in it and try some no smoke for your engine. I have been told that I have a oil leak but they are not sure where its at and I need a new rack and pin. Does that have anything to do with it? What could it really be and how much it cost me to get fixed?

depending on where the smoke is coming from it could be major repair or not. If the smoke is coming from under the hood you have leaks for sure. if it's from the exhaust you probably have valve train or ring problems. You would need to do a compresssion test to see if it's in the block or heads. Degrease your engine so you can better see where the oil may be leaking from leaks from bell housing would be strong indicator the rear mail oil seal is leaking. leak at front could be timing cover, crank, or cam seal. leaks on the engine sides are probably vavle cover gaskets. There are to many things it could be to diag. on loine with out more info.

Keep in mind that if your steering gear is leaking oil, and that oil is getting onto your exhaust, you have a real fire hazard. Transmission fluid and power steering fluid (about the same thing on this car) are very much flammable and should be taken care of as soon as possible.
