engine shutoff on 2005 Hyundai Tucson

driving down highway starts sputtering and cuts off.wil not srart back up.got it towed home unloaded and it started back up.what can the problem be?

Sounds like a fuel problem. Could be a failing fuel pump or pump relay. Next time it won't start, remove the gascap and listen for the fuel pump to run (sounds like an electric motor) at the fuel filler while someone switches the key to RUN (not to START). You should hear the pump for a second or so, if not, the pump probably isn't running. Intermittent cases like yours could also be an ignition failure but that's usually a sudden cut-off and not 'sputtering' like it's running out of fuel.
