The engine just shut off while driving down the road. The lights stayed on and there were no signs of anything wrong with the car. What would cause this?

There are many possibilities, fuel pump, bad relay, poor electrical connection, bad control module, ignition system...all pure guesses though. The way to address issues like this is by performing a proper diagnosis. This is best left to an experienced mechanic, do you have one you can take it to? Or do you have the ability to start performing the diagnosis yourself?

My car did this and I found out it was the cam position sensor. replaced it and it solved the problem. It is an easy fix. It is at the front of the engine on driver side.unplug the wire and take off the nut ,then just pull it out.may have to wiggle it a bit.
