Engine replacement 2.5L on 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback

Will a 2.5L engine out of a 1996 or 1998 subaru outback work in a 1997 Outback?

I just put a 96 engine in my 97 car runs fine but now has a ck engine light on trying to figure out what to do now think i have tto change ecm but not sure

The leak may develop from the oil pump seal. Our technicians prefer to use thread locker when replacing the seal to prevent the bolts from becoming loose again.
I have a 2.2 L engine to replace my burnt out 2.5L. What is needed to do this? In other words. what specific steps must I take, and do I require additional parts?
The head gasket has a high failure rate due to cooling system problems. Subaru is aware of the problem and has extended the warranty to 8 years/100k miles on many vehicles.
