I noticed today that while operating my vehicle my engine jerks whenever I accelerate. For example, when I come to a red light or stop sign, and pause for a few seconds, as soon as I take my foot off the brake and acelerate my vehicles speed up to about 20 miles per hr. the engine jerks back; it sounds like a loud thud. But once it is in gear I don't have this issue anymore. It only occurs once I bring my vehicle to a complete stop. What exactly coulod this be, and is it something major or minor in terms of being repaired? This is my only vehicle.....Please help!!!!

My check engine light has never came on. I always make sure to stay on top of the upkeep of the maintenance of the vehicle so this kind of boggles me. Also its not every day that this occurs; it might happen maybe once or twice a month, but if its something that I can get fixed before the problem spirals out of control, I want to do so.

Maybe a motor mount then? The problem would happen with almost each shift in a manual, but maybe only on the 1-2 shift on an auto if you drive it nice...

Was wondering if you ever got this fixed? I have been having the same problem in my truck. It feels like a hard shift between 1st & 2nd gear I had the tranny rebuilt when 2nd gear started slipping (not sure if this was a side effect of the thudding or seperate issue) it seemed to work for a while and now I'm back to replacing the tranny again.
