1994 BMW 740i Question: ENGINE OIL LEAK FROM TIMING CHAIN COVER

Question

Visitor, Marietta, GA, April 06, 2010, 11:56

Is it normal for timing cover leaks with 147,000 miles driven?
Noticed Oil on ground only after either by cranking the car or by driven? However, the oil will not leak after the car is shut off. I just finished the valve cover gaskets replacement. This happens every time when you start the car . Thanks

This is a common problem with vehicles with less miles even. Its gonna be a gasket replacement but the hard part is getting to it. You might consider replacing other parts as needed because you will have access to a lot during this repair.

Oil leak stops when car stops because your oil pump is no longer pushing oil. If the gasket was put back new with a little silicone you should not have a leak, I have 171K and my only leak was from the oil cooler fittings under the cruise control module leakded, they should have used swagelock flex fittings instead of 3" piece a hose and clamps. good luck
