I have a 91 dodge shadow with a 2.2 liter engine. About 1 week ago it started making a very loud knocking sound from the engine I check my valve and everything was tight and looked like in good working order and while driving the car the noise kind of goes away till I change gears. is there any thing else that I should be looking at

Check oil level and condition. The 2.2 engine was good at blowing head gasket, oil may apear milky if this is the case.
