When my truck is cold in the morning when I step on it, the engine misses, lurches pops and bangs as it accelerates. When the truck is warmer this is less noticable, but sometimes still happens.

Also, this has been an ongoing issue that ford told me was normal, but I dont see how it could be. When traveling at 25-35 mph and you step on it, nothing happens for quite a while, then the engine begins to accelerate, but does seems to hesitate before downshifting and accelerating. This has been going on from day one, and it independent of the other problem I am having.

Popping and spitting is a lean condition. I would start first by attaching a scan tool and look at air flow reading or MAP voltage to see if they are normal, look at fuel trim LONG and SHORT term, look at coolant temperature switch readings and see if the computer is calculating fuel needed based on accurate data. Look for vacuum leaks, and verify fuel pressure.

Great advice from Patrick -- and to add to it, make sure there are no exhaust leaks.
