Question: engine misfire

fpk, 5.7L V8, San Marcos, CA, February 08, 2010, 22:29

 Rookie

Cylinder #5 misfires only at idle. Checked compression, came out low compared to other cylinders. Squirt oil into cylinder, recheck compression, compression comes up. Rings? Can’t pass smog. mileage = 205k

  Unfortunately it does sounds likely to be a ring problem. A cylinder leakage test may show more information.
