Engine light on -- exhaust system malfunction on 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

The yellow engine light came on as driving. The car has 57,000 and was just in for the 55,000 maintenance and check up. What could cause the light to come on? What could cause "the exhaust system malfunction"?

The yellow check engine light means that there is a fault code in your engine computer and there are many, many codes. here is an article http://repairpal.com/check-engine-light you need to have the codes checked, it most likely does not involve the service or it would have come on within 50-60 miles.

There are literally hundreds of possibilities, just look at this list of codes that can be stored: http://repairpal.com/obd-II-code-chart Check the gas cap, make sure it isn't missing, loose or installed incorrectly, correct as necessary. Next you'll need to have the codes pulled and diagnosed to find the problem.

mine just went on at 57000 miles had it coded today and the said it was the fan contol circuit that is not cooling the car properly and can cause it to overheat - going in for service next week just need to watch that it does not get to hot until then they told me to take it easy with the a/c etc...

engine light is on. I had it reset and came back on within 10 miles. Had code checked it was a P0410. I think this has something to do with the exhaust. How do I fix it?
