1998 Chrysler Concorde Question: Engine light and poor gas mileage

Engine light comes on and it is always the cam shaft sensor. Have replaced it 3 times. We have experience extremely poor gas mileage since we got the car last year. Averaging 180 - 190 miles per tank of gas. I believe the tank to 15 gallons. Any idea what the problem could be?

Had a 97 Cirrus that had the same fuel problem, but when the engine light came on it registered a large vapor leak. Is Chrysler known for fuel problems or what?

I would check your timing belt. Make sure it has not slipped or that the cam shaft seals are not leaking oil, which would ruin your cam sensors. When was your belt last replaced? it is due at about 105 k or in 7 years. all of these issues will really decrease mileage.

Thanks for your response dandd. The car only has 66k on it and it runs great, could it still be the timing belt? Also I've noticed the exhaust smells of unburnt gasoline.

Hi check your coolant temperature sensor and o2 sensor both can fool the computer into giving too much fuel to the engine. also check the plugs if they are black and sooty then for sure the fuel system is giving too much fuel.
