My check engine light came on and was told I need a new catalytic converter. The next day the light went out. Do I still need a new converter? If I do, should I get an off market one for $200 or the titanium product for $800?

Before you replace the catalytic converter, you should understand from the shop what the trouble code is and why it is the catalytic converter. If the light is intermittent, it's highly unlikely that it is the cat. I never recommend off-market/universal catalytics, because they will just fail or cause you to fail state emissions tests.
Sounds like you should get a second opinion if the light comes back on.

Visitor, May 25, 2010, 14:53Replymy 2001 odyssey does the same thing. Light Comes On Light goes Off. dealer said I needed new converter. Five years later, still passing inspection with old converter, light still goes on and off. Live in Marietta as well. Maybe it's something in the water(ha ha).
