If they gave you an estimate for parts and labor, then they must have a good idea as to what the problem is. Can you call back to the shop that gave you an estimate and ask them?

It wasn't a shop actually, just telling different mechanics what's going on. I've tried different things that they've said and the problem still exists. I just thought this forum would give me the exact diagnosis

If it is the same as a 98, the intake manafold is plastic. The EGR tub is stainless and comes through it which degrades the plastic. The solution to keep it cool was to run coolant through the plastic manifold. It didn't work over the long run. The replacement manafold has a new aluminum tub that is reduced size which shouldn't degrade the plastic.
The water pump may develop a coolant leak resulting in an engine overheating condition.
The upper intake manifold may develop an internal coolant leak causing one or more cylinders to fill with coolant. This can cause the engine to "hydro-lock" and not turn over. Removing the spark pl...
my car over heated and I'm trying to determine if it's the water pump. The serpentine belt is on and working fine and the pulley that I think is connected to the water pump seems to be okay.

Would a leak from thermostat housing be a dark color. He said it would cost $100 to seal.
I recently replaced the water pump since I noticed some coolant around the pump area. Two days later I noticed it leaking again and removed the alternator to get a better look and sure enough I saw...
