Question: engine knock under load

ive develuped a knock when motor is under load idles fine flat land no load good to go . is that a rod bearing going our ? its something i have to fix useing the< unemployed > an screwed parts an labor budget...can i just do the bad one for now? possible to do in truck ?

    Is it a "knock",...or a "rattle"....If it's a knock...try a few tank fill-ups with 91 octane,....the 2400 motors can be picky about fuel....stay away from the gas at Giant and stick with Texaco and Chevron.....even Circle K gas would be better....if it's a rattle sound that comes from the front part of the motor....sounds like you have a sticky timing chain tensioner....cheap fix if you catch it early and have mechanical ability....otherwise a timing chain set runs about $150 including gaskets at Checker.............
