I'm interested in purchasing a 2006 Element with 99k miles on it. During the the test drive- I noticed that there was a strange engine noise (almost like a whistle) when accelerating. The noise goes away immediately if you stop accelerating. Does anyone else have this issue?

Question: Engine issues?

hard to say without hearing it. could be a loose drive belt, timing belt or some kind of vacuum leak.
my suggestion is let a shop do a bumper to bumper inspection and give you a report of any issues.

Thanks for your reply. The vehicle also needs new brakes and front tires (which I did manage to get the dealership to do and I haven't even committed to purchasing it yet). I've owned an element in the past and was really looking forward to another. I just didn't remember any engine noises with my first. I don't wanna buy it and have it die in 10k miles.
