Engine Dies while Driving Or Will Crank but not Start on Saab 900

Problem Description and Possible Solution

The direct ignition cassette can fail causing the engine to die while driving, and/or it will crank but start. Diagnosis may also discover trouble codes for random misfires.

While ignition is on and car is in drive, the car will suddenly lose power and must be re-started. Once re-started, the 'Check Engine' light will come on. No error codes are present when diagnosis computer is connected. Mechanic seems to think problem is with DI cassette and should be replaced.
