Engine cranks but won't start on 2001 Cadillac Catera

The engine cranks but won't start and the only way to start it is to crank engine and leave key in ignition, unplug battery for a few seconds, plug it back in and then turn key again. Many "experts" have "fixed" it only to have the problem recurr within days. The more honest ones just tell us they cannot figure it out.....

it sounds like security issue. the ones who got it to start are on the right track to the problem, just need to go further with the diags. the ones who cant figure it out dont know the system. i would continue with the ones who reset the security system and let them keep the car to see why it losses its memeory.
