     Journeyman

Vehicle Application: 2001 Volkswagen Jetta GL 2.0L, Eng Des AZG 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio 2.0L

    Customer Concern: Codes: P1225, P1226, P1227, P1228, P1421, P1425 and P1472.
Tests/Procedures: All of the codes indicate short to ground on various injector and solenoid circuits. All of the circuits are powered by the fuel pump relay. If the output voltage from the fuel pump relay falls below approximately 9 volts during cranking, multiple short to ground codes for all fuel pump relay powered circuits can be generated. In addition, an ignition switch can cause a similar situation if power from the switch is intermittently interrupted. This failure can be very difficult to reproduce, since it is usually very intermittent in nature. Attempt to reproduce the symptom by heating and cooling the fuel pump relay and by jiggling and tapping on the ignition switch.
Potential Causes: Defective Fuel Pump Relay
    Defective Ignition Switch

    Diagnostic Codes: P1225, P1226, P1227, P1228, P1421, P1425, P1472
