Question: engine barely accelerating

just bought a 1990 camry dx and It barely goes when I push the petal until the rpms are way up but I have to feather it to get up there

    If the car has a manual transmission is the clutch worn out? Do you smell a burned out clutch smells like burning brakes? Likewise if automatic transmission perhaps the transmission is failing check the automatic transmission fluid level.
    I wonder if the fuel filter is clogged or the fuel pump cannot supply enough volume of fuel? Could have a slipped timing belt or a restriction in the exhaust (plugged up catalytic converter).

    Even though you bought this car around five months ago and if i was on this site then. I would have told you TO WALK AWAY FAST. We both have the same year, make, model and engine. Mine ahs been a piece of junk. I have to keep it for the time being and that is i have put in so much money.
