Took to indepedent shop,ran test,stated probably the catalytic converter...and maybe an induction service could solve the problem,but unfortunately he couldn't do it and recommended a dealer. The problem he said would be the dealer would rather sell a converter than do an induction service. $$$$ Is there an alternative route?

not really. it is a 420 code for cat efficiency. aftermarket converters are not reccomended as they do not meet oem specs and the light will come on again. replace with oem converter, it is expensive but will do the job correctly. Roy
A failure of the Primary O2 sensor heater can cause illumination for the Check Engine Light. Replacing the O2 is required to repair this issue.
