actually have an 87 dodge colt that failed smog due to "ignition timing" is that an easy fix? What is it, how do you fix it?

    It may be just a simple adjustment, but requires special tools to perform. Try taking it to a test and repair smog shop, ask if they can perform an ignition timing reset and then have the smog check performed again. You may need to take it to a test only station to have the test performed though.
