I enjoyed using the coupon and was expecting to pay a little over $50 for the work on the car. Was told when the car was ready for pick-up that the only other issue was a burned out license plate bulb but they went ahead and took care of it. Was surprised the cost for that was around $30 with labor and wasn't told that until I came into pick up the car.

We did do a complete inspection of your vehicle, and because you take such good care of your car, a burnt out license plate bulb was the only issue we found when performing your full service oil change, tire rotation and vehicle inspection. Accessing the license plate bulbs on your vehicle does require removing an entire liftgate panel to gain access. While only one bulb was burnt out, we replaced both - since the bulbs are only $3 each and we wanted to save you the labor charge to re-access the panel again in the near future when the other bulb was likely to burn out soon. When we advise you of your vehicle's needs, We tend to quote the total cost of everything you need as one grand total, as opposed to attempting to break down every little component cost over the phone. We are always willing to break down things further if you need, and everything is itemized and invoiced on your final repair summary.

I am generally satisfied with the service I receive at E&J. On my last visit I felt I was overcharged for the installation of the battery which if I had gone Auto Zone etc. they would have installed my battery free of charge.

Patricia, Thank you for letting us know that you generally are satisfied with our shop. We do charge for our labor when installing parts on vehicles. Today's computer controlled vehicles have memories that must have constant electrical supply to maintain (above and beyond just the clock and radio presets). When we install a new battery into a vehicle we use a special device that ensures that there is no interruption in the electrical supply while the battery is being removed (which would erase the memories of the computers, reset your clock to zero and possibly cause an anti-theft deterrent lockout of your entire radio that requires a factory code to restore). Also, your vehicle battery is held in place by a bracket that must be removed to gain access to the battery. We also perform a complete cleaning of the battery cable ends to ensure that the new battery has the best possible electrical connection to the starting system, charging system and computer modules. The auto parts stores, that we are aware of, who do not necessarily employ certified technicians, do not provide this level of service when replacing a battery. On top of that, your new battery is warrantied by us, nationwide, by a five year free replacement warranty with absolutely no pro-ration throughout the warranty period. I hope this helps justify to you the nominal fee we charge to install a battery.

The part that stands out the most is that they take pictures of everything they are going to replace/work on. They email to you in a mini report so you know that it really does need to be replaced and they are not doing extra needless work.

If you note the individual pricing for each service, you'll see that our price for each individual service is within the RepairPal fair price estimate. We are sorry you feel like we did more work on the car than you asked for. After reviewing your repair visit, it actually seems like you requested us to do less work on your car than we were recommending, and we respected your request to do less work than your car needed to fully solve the problem that you brought it in for. When you brought your car to us you stated that the car had a longer stopping distance than it should and that it was pulsating while stopping. We had our technician test drive the vehicle with you in the car so that you could demonstrate to us what your vehicle was doing. We noted that the Anti-lock brake system was activating at times when it normally shouldn't. After we provided you with a ride home, we fully diagnosed your car and found that the front and rear brake friction components were excessively worn, the brake fluid was contaminated and your tires were worn past their useful life, causing loss of traction. These three factors were working together to produce the symptoms you specifically wanted to resolve. We also performed a complementary maintenance inspection and noted some other preventative maintenance needs based on the condition, age and mileage of the vehicle. We presented you with all of our recommendations, and you asked us to perform only the brake work and replace a burnt out brake light bulb. We did not replace the tires that you very badly needed, nor did we perform the other preventative maintenance that your car really needs to remain reliable long term, and we made careful notes for you on your invoice, so you knew exactly what services your car still needs and can plan to bring them up to date before they cause other more serious problems with your vehicle. We know that keeping a car in good safe working order does require investing in maintenance and repairs from time to time, and we would love the opportunity to help you figure out the best way to fit those necessary items into your overall plan.

I have lived in the neighborhood over 20 years and have passed this place a 1000 times and was curious. I have always well maintained my vehicles but since I was going on a long road trip and I suspected my front brakes needed work, I wanted an inspection and tune-up done. I assumed this was an old school mechanic shop but instead was greeted in a professional and courteous manner. The technology was up to date. I was sent updates along with pics of each inspection made. At the end the car passed inspection BUT yes I needed my front brakes worked on and an air filter. Great experience, would recommend to anyone .
