2001 Subaru Outback Q&A

2001 Subaru Outback Question: Driver's side steering gear boot is busted. What do I do?

Can I just replace the boot or does steering linkage have to be replaced too? -
Answer 1
if it is the cv boot you are talking about the best thing to do would be to replace the cv shaft ,depending on how long the boot has been torn -

No, it's not the CV boot, they're in good shape (replaced last year). It's the longer, skinnier boot on the steering linkage. Thanks -
Answer 2
If it is leaking replace the steering rack assembly. Boot is not supposed to have fluid in it! If just torn replace the boot. -

I'll go back and check it out again, but I believe there is no leaking, just a torn boot. Thanks, appreciate the help. -
