This sounds like either a cable or gear in the front to back/back to front seat mechanism that is driven by the motor is defective.

This was helpful in that it gives me info that I can take with me when I go to get it repaired, I called Infinity, and just to get it diagnosed is $142.30 weather I let them fix it or not, but if I let them fix it that price will be deducted from the cost of repair. I wanted to get an estimate about the total cost of repair. Now it does not go back or forward at all, but everything else work. Fortunately it stopped working in a position that I drive in.

This is a semi-common issue with the power seat track assembly on the FX35s. There is a plastic gear that drives the track forward and back and over time it wears out and the teeth snap off. Unfortunately you cannot buy simply a replacement gear. You have the buy a whole new seat track assembly (essentially everything under the seat) - $936 from the dealer plus $300 for labor. I found a few online for a bit cheaper - $500 - $750, and you could install it yourself. I am working with a local fabricator to see if they can remanufacture a replacement gear before I order the entire assembly.

Follow-up: I found a company that took it upon themselves to reproduce the required gears for the seat tracks! $65 versus $1000+ is an awesome deal. I received mine today and installed, works great.

Here is the weblink to order online through PayPal: http://www.odometergears.com/infiniti.html

    Good luck!

Which one from those 3 different gears you choose???
Non-Magnetic? Smooth inner bore? Splined inner bore?

    Thank you.

I just ordered a gear to fix the seat of my 2005 FX35 from the link above, only $32 to have it overnight it so I wouldn't have to put the seat back together and take it apart again. If this works as expected i will have spent a total of 15min (including the internet searches) and 3 tools with spending less than $100 to fix what the dealer refused to fix for less than $1400!
I will write tomorrow when the should be all finished and let you know how it goes.

On all Infiniti and Nissan power seats, there are two gears, one on each side of the rail in front. Most come a part by removing three phillips screws in front and a 10mm nut. The gear can easily ordered and replaced by most individuals in about 15 minutes. We started making these gears because as most of you have found, the dealer wants between $900 to $1400 for a new seat. Just replace the gear. It's easy. Instructions with photos can be found here: http://www.odometergears.com/products/Infiniti/Seat+Gears...

    Hope this helps folks.

My wife just came to me and said her seat does not work. I checked it out and it goes forward, but when I move it back it gets about 1/4 to 1/2 way back and stops. Like it is binding up or something is in the track. Kinda tweaks to the outside a bit.
I cant see anything in the track.
It is a little tough to to get my fat head under the dash to look back at the seat because it is too close to the dash.

If I read this right, this gear you guys are talking about, wears out and will bind up like I explained?

If this is right this is an incredible site. If it saves me $1000 I owe someone a beer! I need to order a few!

PLease let me know if my story sounds like the gear change would do the trick.

I have a 06 FX35 and my seat was doing the same thing.. The dealer tells you the only solution is to replace the seat track for $1600,
But that not true! Only thing wrong with the seat which is a common problem with the Fx is the seat gear for only $65 and ten minutes of your time.. Hit me up, i'll help you out.. The Mailman..
