drivebelt replacement on 2003 Saturn L300

hi trying to replace drivebelt.it is routed properly but even with the tensioner moved all the way,i'm still about an inch shy of getting it to fit help

Sounds like the parts store gave you the wrong belt http://www.autozone.com/autozone/ Autozone has a repair guide available online and its free just sign up and put in your vehicles info and click on engine mechanical

As "hemicuda" said: maybe you got the "wrong belt". How close does the new "wrong belt" match up to the old belt? Many auto parts stores buy parts from off-shore manufacturers which may be made to less stringent tolerences than OEMs. A very well known example is that of brake discs.
