Does the oil need to be changed during a rear main seal job? on 2000 Toyota Echo

Just had my rear main seal replaced because of an oil leak. Should my mechanic have changed the oil while doing this job?

yes because it falls under the preventative maintainance area. sometime when the seal is replaced you might end up getting some unwanted material in the oil pan that could get into the engine and maybe lead to further or future problems. plus it is a inexpensive insurance to change the oil
