2004 Ford Taurus Question: does the engine have to come out to replace the timing cover gasket?

I was told this at a repair shop and I am trying to verify

    they may want to R&R engine to do repair but in the factory information there is a specified procedure to R&R front timing cover engine in car service/repair. i'd hunt around for another shop.

    No it does not! While the cover is off, sure would be a darn good time to replace any other componets that are questionable AT ALL!!
