Chrysler Recalls 1994-1996 Dodge Rams Due to Defective Throttle Cable

Chrysler has recalled certain 1994-1996 Dodge Ram 1500/2500 models equipped with Diesel engines because the throttle cable could unravel (fray) or break, which may cause a loss of throttle control. A throttle that does not return to idle may lead to unexpected acceleration. Dealers will inspect and replace the throttle cable and upper bell crank lever.

Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH DIESEL ENGINES. THE THROTTLE CABLE COULD UNRAVEL (FRAY) OR BREAK RESULTING IN LOSS OF THROTTLE CONTROL.

Consequence: A THROTTLE THAT DOES NOT RETURN TO IDLE COULD RESULT IN UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE THROTTLE CABLE AND UPPER BELL CRANK LEVER. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN AUGUST 3, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT DAIMLER CHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.
