1993 Dodge Dynasty Problems
Some engines may experience a cold engine knock that lasts for three to five minutes after start-up, which is often misdiagnosed as a valve lifter noise. This noise is commonly not an indication of a failure and should not be a reliability or durability concern.
The AC/heater (HVAC) system may unexpectedly switch to the defrost mode when accelerating. This system is operated by engine vacuum and should be inspected for any vacuum leaks if this problem develops. There is also a revised vacuum check valve available to address this concern.
Timing belt replacement should be done at 60K intervals or sooner in very hot climates. The timing belt tensioner pulley should be replaced any time the timing belt is replaced.
Abnormal fuel pump noise may be noted. There is a revised fuel pump, wiring harness, fuel tank insulators, fuel tank straps, and fuel tank available depending on the vehicle.
Low fuel pressure may be caused by a faulty fuel pump check valve.
Hard starting or rough idle after the vehicle is parked for a period of time may be caused by leaking fuel injectors.
Corrosion on the coolant temperature sensor wiring may cause a hard or no start condition in cold ambient temperatures.
A dirty throttle body can cause a low idle condition resulting in a stalling condition.
Various driveability concerns can be caused by deposits on the back of the intake valves. Fuel injector cleaner has shown reasonable results cleaning light deposits.
Excessive oil consumption—defined as more than one quart per 1,000 miles (on vehicles with less than 50,000 miles) or more than one quart per 750 miles (on vehicles with more than 50,000 miles)—is common. Replacing the valve guides with an updated version should fix the problem.
