do i need any special tools to change a hub bearing? on 2006 Pontiac Torrent

i am hearing a noise in the right front it is loudest between 43 & 47 mph . it started after hitting a pothole.

You have to remove the wheel, brake caliper and mount, brake disc, withdraw the half shaft and then there are three bolts securing the hub/bearing assembly to the steering knuckle, not a complex job at all. You might get and image of the part on www.rockauto.com.

yes, your going to need a slide hammer to take it out. Hopefully it will come out. Pontiac's wonderful design of a steel hub in an aluminum knuckle was not the greatest. I had to torch mine out. If you have to do this make sure you dont melt the knuckle, once its deformed its junk. To replace this could cost around $700 to $800. Also buy the hub at a dealership, or genuine parts. These after market hubs that are 1/3 of the money are not worth buying. They are cheap and will break in about a year or so.
